Deutsche Eiche

Donnerhall x Pik Bube x Wohlklang

Graded Oldenburg, Select WBS(UK), Elite candidate BHHS

Deutsche Eiche was the dam of our broodmares Galaxie, Gina and Sunday. Born in 1990, she is the daughter of Donnerhall, out of a Pik Bube mare, Pik Stahl. This means that she was ¾ line bred to the great stallion Don Schufro. Dorle, as she was known, was a gentle mare, whose life had been full of ups and downs.

Dorle was bought from her German breeder as a three year old, and although she had been broken in, she had spent the majority of her life being a successful broodmare.

In 1992, Dorle’s full sister, Deutsche Einheit sold at the Vechta Auction for over £140,000, and her full brother Duntroon is a stallion, currently standing in the USA. We believe that Dorle is the only progeny of Pik Stahl remaining in the UK, making her incredibly special.

Deutsche Eiche was also the dam of four other Giorgione daughters, one of whom was sold at the Oldenburger auctions in Germany (Gloria Germania), and another is at Hollyland Stud; Goldstream. In 2005, Dorle gave birth to her last foal, a filly by Sandro Hit, who we are lucky enough to also own.

Dorle’s fantastic bloodlines led us to make a big decision with regards to our breeding programme. With the help of the incredibly capable stud vet Greg Staniek, we chose to attempt to breed from Dorle via embryo transfer. To our delight, we were successful on both flushes and as a result we welcomed two foals by Keystone Rivallino and Samba Hit III in 2011.

In 2010, Dorle was presented for grading with the British Hanoverian Horse Society and the Warmblood Breeders’ Studbook (UK). She was easily the oldest mare being inspected, but delighted us by grading into the Head Studbook in the BHHS, and then achieving Select status with the WBS(UK). At the BHHS Annual Show, she also received a 1A award, giving her Elite candidate status.

Briarwood Stud welcomed three new members of Dorle’s family to the herd on 2011; two embryo transfer foals and her Giorgione daughter Gina. Gina was purchased as a competition horse and did her mother proud, qualifying for the BD Nationals as PSG.

The two embryo transfer foals were better than we could ever have hoped for; Dorle’s seventh daughter Tilly was born first, then her second colt, Spike a month later. Tilly was retained by the stud as both a future dressage star for Laura and a potential broodmare.

Sadly we lost Dorle in February 2016 at the age of 25. Briarwood Stud will not be the same without her and we are privileged to have three of her daughters in our herd, continuing this special mare's precious legacy.
